Energy Future Holdings Corp. (EFH), a Dallas-based energy company, recently announced that it is filing for bankruptcy. EFH has owned, operated, maintained, and built power plants that contain asbestos materials across the United States and in foreign countries.

As a result of asbestos use within these power plants, EFH employees, contractors, and their family members are all at risk for exposure to the substance, which can lead to fatal diseases like mesothelioma.
Asbestos Claims Deadline Denies Justice to Asbestos Victims
As part of the bankruptcy restructuring process, individuals who have worked at EFH power plants as contractors or employees, as well as their families, have a limited amount of time in which to file an asbestos claim against EFH. The deadline to file a claim was December 14, 2015 at 5:00pm Eastern Standard Time.
Those who have experienced first or second-hand exposure and have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease should have files a manifested claim. Those who have experienced exposure but have yet to see the effects should have files an unmanifested claim. Both types of claims should have been submitted before December 14, 2015 at 5:00pm EST.
To remain eligible for compensation now or in the future, you or your attorney must have filed your claim by the December 14, 2015 deadline, whether you have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease or not.
