A native of Minnesota, Brayton Purcell Associate Robert Gilchrist graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1976. After several years in private business he moved to Utah to attend law school at the University of Utah, where he was a Leary Scholar in 1980 and 1981. He earned his law degree in 1982.

Mr. Gilchrist has practiced as a civil trial lawyer for 18 years, and has successfully tried cases to juries involving defective products, automobile collisions, industrial accidents, work place injuries, and insurance coverage. He has tried cases in both state and federal courts throughout Utah and Wyoming, including in diverse locales ranging from Laramie, Wyoming to Delta, Utah.

A Martindale-Hubbell AV rated lawyer, Mr. Gilchrist is a member of the American Bar Association, Salt Lake County Bar Association, Utah Trial Lawyers Association, and American Association for Justice. He served as the chair for the Utah State Bar subcommittee that wrote the jury instructions for all automobile accident litigation. He is a frequent presenter at trial seminars that are sponsored by both plaintiff and defense lawyers. He has spoken on topics such as how to evaluate cases, how to try brain injury cases, and how to prevent injuries through adequate property management. Mr. Gilchrist has spoken before the Utah Legislature, and drafted the bill that was passed at the 2000 Legislature which will prevent manufacturers of defective products from passing off their liability to purchasers and users of products.

Mr. Gilchrist and his wife are active in community affairs, having served on the Board of Directors of SPLORE, Utah Youth Village, and the Care Fair. He is an avid skier and plays in a local roller hockey league.
