A San Francisco Bay Area native, James Nevin received a bachelor of arts from Boston College, a master of arts from Stanford University, and a law degree from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). An editor on UCLA Law Review, he published a journal article entitled “Obstacles to Internet Voting: Perceived Problems with Security and ‘Digital Divide’ Vote Dilution” (6 W.Va. J. L. & Tech. 2.1; May 10, 2002).
Mr. Nevin is a trial counsel with the firm. He has been with Brayton Purcell since March 2002. His legal practice focuses on toxic torts, such as tobacco and asbestos, and other civil litigation for plaintiffs. In 2004, Mr. Nevin was a student at the ABA/TIPS/ABOTA National Trial Academy held at the National Judicial College, and in 2007, he returned as a member of the faculty. Mr. Nevin was a speaker at the 2008 Harris Martin Asbestos Litigation Conference. His prior legal experience includes work as a law clerk for the Washington State Court of Appeals. Before entering the legal field, Mr. Nevin lived in China, where he studied Mandarin Chinese and taught advanced English and U.S. history and political science.
Mr. Nevin is admitted to practice in California, including the 9th Circuit Court, the California Supreme Court, and all U.S. District Courts in the state. He is a member of Trial Lawyers for Public Justice and Consumer Attorneys of California.
Mr. Nevin resides in Novato, CA with his wife, Brigit, a former Pesticide Enforcement Scientist for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and his son, Sean, and his daughter, Shelby. His interests include golf and hiking.
