Lawyers' Committee Provides Free Legal Assistance

Brayton Purcell a Sponsor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- January 26, 2007 -- Brayton Purcell is a sponsor of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. luncheon presented by the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, a network of attorneys, law firms and volunteers that work for justice in the areas of race, poverty and immigration. The Committee provides free legal assistance to individuals and also takes on policy impact cases that focus on major civil rights issues.

The luncheon will take place at the Westin St. Francis Hotel on 335 Powell Street in San Francisco on February 12, 2007. The event raises money for the work of the Committee and also honors legal professionals who freely give their time and energy to help others.

The keynote speaker is Van Jones, founder and National Executive Director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and Bay Area Police Watch. About Brayton Purcell's Community Activities

Besides being a sponsor of the luncheon, Brayton Purcell has been active in many local and national causes, supporting groups such as the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association, the Alzheimer's Association, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization and the Novato Human Needs Center. Local activities have included sponsoring these fund-raisers: Two Rock & Roll Bike Trek (American Lung Association), Relay for Life (American Cancer Society), Bowl for Kids Sake (Big Brothers, Big Sisters) and Labor Day at the Lake (City of Novato). In 2005, the firm received awards as Business of the Year from the Rotary Club of Ignacio and from the Novato Chamber of Commerce.
