Are You Ready to Hang Up on Your Cell Phone Company?
ARLINGTON, VA -- May 18, 2007 -- Problems with cell phone companies topped the list of consumer complaints sent to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) last year, ahead of those for over 2,500 other businesses, including automobile dealerships. The 2006 total was 28,791 complaints and 174,115 requests for background reports about cell phone companies, according to a recent BBB report.
Numerous mistakes, inadequate customer service and misleading information can cause customer discontent, the BBB says. Common complaints include inconsistent advice and failure to correct errors, even after they are repeatedly pointed out. In the cell phone industry, these practices may lead to charges for unwanted services, contract cancellations without consent, renewal of contracts without consent and failure to receive promised rebates. Advertisements can also be misleading.
