The intention to ban asbestos in the United Sates was announced by the Environmental Protection Agency in 1979, but did you know that asbestos exists in abundance all over the world? In the past, as well as today, asbestos is being mined, imported, exported, and produced into materials to be worked into consumer products everywhere.

Many developing nations see the benefits of asbestos being that it is affordable, durable, and resistant to heat and flame. These are the same reasons the United States embraced the mineral and used it extensively up until the 1970's. Even the U.S. has not officially banned asbestos, and more countries are ignoring the warning signs of disease and death caused by exposure.
