NEW YORK, NY — July 19, 2002 — Trial Lawyers Care (TLC), a nonprofit corporation of volunteer trial lawyers providing legal services to September 11th victims, recently announced that it has obtained monetary awards for 16 families. The organization represents and helps individuals who choose to make claims under the federal September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.
At meetings with TLC attorneys, the Fund announced the award ranges, which will be significantly higher than would be expected using standard charts. The money will go to surviving spouses and parents of terrorist victims and their families.
The Compensation Fund will determine the exact amount of each award within the next few weeks. Once the exact awards are determined, each family will have the option of accepting the award or electing to proceed to a full hearing.
Brayton Purcell is an active TLC participant, currently providing volunteer legal representation for several families involved with September 11th claims. In December 2001, the firm’s employees chose to cancel their usual holiday party, instead donating the money that would have been spent to the TLC program.
