CHANTIX® Lawsuits From Drug Side Effects
CHANTIX®: Deadly Side Effects to Quit Smoking Drug
Chantix is a drug designed to help people quit smoking. It both stimulates and blocks specific nicotine receptors in the brain. Since May of 2006, the FDA has received numerous adverse eventsreports including:
- visual disturbances and transient forms of blindness,
- movement disorders,
- seizures,
- loss of consciousness,
- suicidal thoughts,
- suicidal behavior,
- psychosis,
- hostility,
- aggression,
- paranoia, and
- hallucinations.
In early 2008, the FDA commented, “It
appears increasingly likely that there may be an association between CHANTIX and
serious neuropsychiatric symptoms.
” Following the FDA’s
inquiry, Pfizer (the drug manufacturer) updated the drug’s label to indicate that CHANTIX side
effects include, “Reports
of depressed mood, agitation, changes in behavior, suicidal ideation (thoughts) and suicide in patients
attempting to quit smoking while taking Chantix.
”
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a CHANTIX ban in May of 2008, which restricts all pilots and air traffic controllers from using Chantix. In addition, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has advised medical examiners that individuals taking CHANTIX should be disqualified from obtaining a commercial motor vehicle license to operate vehicles like trucks or buses.
