by Brayton Purcell LLP | Dec 16, 2008 | Brayton Purcell News

Lloyd “Butch” LeRoy recertified as an Appellate Specialist in California

December 16, 2008 — Lloyd “Butch” LeRoy, a Junior Partner at Brayton Purcell has been recertified as an appellate specialist by the State Bar of California. Mr. LeRoy, who manages the firm’s appellate practice group has been with the firm since April of 1999 and became a partner in January of 2006. He was first certified as an appellate specialist in September of 2003.

Specialty certification in California is administered by the Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar. Applicants for specialist certification in appellate law must spend at least twenty five percent of their time in appellate practice, earn experience points by briefing and arguing cases on appeal, and pass a rigorous written examination.

Once a candidate is certified as a specialist they are required to maintain their qualifications. In addition to remaining a member of the Bar in good standing, they must earn 60 hours of continuing legal education in Appellate Practice and continue to earn experience points by writing and editing appellate briefs. Every five years they must apply for recertification by the Board of Legal Specialization.

Mr. LeRoy’s practice focuses primarily in the areas of personal injury, toxic torts, and medical malpractice. In addition to his work in the California appellate courts, he has successfully argued cases before the appellate courts in Oregon, Washington, and Utah.
