Vintage Asbestos Advertisements

On behalf of Brayton Purcell LLP | Dec 20, 2013 | Asbestos

Do you remember when asbestos was used in a wide array of consumer goods? Originally thought to be a “miracle mineral,” asbestos was taken from its natural state in the earth and repurposed for many different reasons throughout the world, especially in America.

If your memory doesn’t take you back, let these vintage asbestos advertisements! The age of advertising has preserved our use of this dangerous substance in time, forever.

Roofing

One of the reasons asbestos was so well-received around the world was its ability to resist heat and fire. As a result, the substance was used in the roofing materials of residential homes.

Floor Tiles

Schools, commercial buildings, and residential homes all took advantage of colorfully-made asbestos tiles. They were resistant to stains, easy to clean, and lasted a long time. Today, the easiest way to remodel a home with asbestos floor tiling is to seal it up, as opposed to ripping it out and disturbing the toxic fibers.

Wall Tiles

Wall tiles made of asbestos claimed to “beautify the American home,” “lessen danger from fire,” and “lower the cost of construction and maintainence.” It is no wonder that the young American nation, yearning for a cheap and easy way of life, embraced asbestos all over their homes.

Most U.S. homes built before 1970s were constructed with asbestos materials. If you are looking to remodel your home, do not hesitate to have it tested for asbestos. If positive testing is reported anywhere in your home, it is time to call the pros. There are companies that specialize in safe asbestos removal, whose main goal is to keep you and your family out of harm’s way.
