Five Resolutions for a Safer New Year

We often make resolutions to lose weight in the New Year, but what about keeping ourselves safe from harm? Brayton Purcell LLP has come up with five resolutions that will lead to a safer year for you and your family.

Be a Better Driver

Using a cell phone while driving can result in catastrophic loss of life for you or another driver (or pedestrian) on the road. Using a hands-free device or putting your cell phone away before a car ride will keep everyone safe in the New Year.

Keep Current

Do you keep fire extinguishers in your home? 2015 might be the perfect time to replace an old, expired fire extinguisher or introduce one into your home for the first time. Kitchen fires are more common than you think, and lit candles can quickly become dangerous if left unattended in your home. A fresh fire extinguisher might save your house and your life.

Read the Labels

Food labels are required to tell you what is in the food and drinks you consume, as well as if they might affect your health in an adverse way.

Warning labels on new products will also tell you how to keep you and your children safe from potential harm.

Breathe Easy

The air quality of your home might be causing your family’s health to suffer. Radon, mold, asbestos, and more are all threats to the breathable air in your home. Testing for and dealing with these hazards in 2015 will keep you and your family safe for years to come.

Stay Smart

If you work in an occupation that subjects you to hazardous conditions, such as firefighting, don’t take the protective gear for granted. Laws and guidelines, rules and regulations – some employees disregard them, but the smart ones that follow them stay alive.
