Kentucky Woman Blames Asbestos-Covered Clothing for her Cancer

by Brayton Purcell LLP | Mar 16, 2015 | Occupational Asbestos Exposure

Asbestos is a dangerous substance that affects many different kinds of individuals. You mostly hear about workers in many blue collar trades being diagnosed with asbestos-related diseases after being exposed on the job, but their family members are often at risk as well.

A woman who formerly resided in Owensboro, Kentucky is suing multiple companies, claiming she was exposed to asbestos that followed her husband home on his clothing. This type of second-hand exposure is not unheard of. Spouses and the children of exposed workers have been known to contract deadly diseases after doing the laundry or simply hugging their loved one, day after day.

The woman, Doris White, has filed suit against several companies that her ex-husband worked for, including General Electric, Triangle Insulation and Sheet Metal Co., Domtar Inc., Goodrich, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, and more. She was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma, a cancer whose only known cause is exposure to asbestos.

The spouses and children of workers who have held high-risk occupations should alert their doctors to the possibility of secondary asbestos exposure and a future asbestos-related disease diagnosis. Asbestos fibers have been known to rest on workers’ clothing, contaminating their cars and homes, and exposing their families to the toxic substance.

Find out more information on which blue collar trades are at high-risk for asbestos exposure on the job on AsbestosNetwork.com. If you or your spouse works in one of these positions, your risk for a mesothelioma or other asbestos-related disease diagnosis is high, and you might be entitled to compensation from those responsible for your condition.
