Deadline for Power Plant Asbestos Claims Coming Up

by Brayton Purcell LLP | Oct 5, 2015 | Occupational Asbestos Exposure

As part of Energy Future Holdings Corporation’s financial restructuring, EFH power plant employees and contractors are being forced to file asbestos claims sooner than later. If individuals do not file claims before the upcoming December deadline, they risk losing their right to any compensation for asbestos-related diseases.

If you have ever worked at a power plant as an employee or contractor, your risk for developing an asbestos-related disease in your lifetime is high. Many power plant employees have been exposed to asbestos during their time at work, while contractors have experienced it in the building of power plants across the country. This exposure can lead to debilitating and often fatal asbestos-related diseases, like mesothelioma.

Oftentimes, an asbestos exposure victim does not know they have been exposed until they develop a related disease years or decades after exposure took place. If you have worked at a power plant owned, operated, maintained, or built by Energy Future Holdings Corporation, you have until December 14, 2015 to file a claim to reserve your right to compensation if you are ill now or become ill in the future. Predicting the future isn’t exactly humanly possible, so it is better to be safe than sorry.

Submitting your manifested or unmanifested claim by December 14th will secure your eligibility for compensation now or in the future. See this website for instructions on filing your claim, or contact an asbestos attorney to help guide you through the process.
