Volkswagen to Recall “Clean Diesel” Vehicles in January

by Brayton Purcell LLP | Nov 3, 2015 | emissions-cheating scandal, Product Recalls

Amidst the recent emissions-cheating scandal, automaker Volkswagen has announced that it will be recalling falsely-advertised “clean diesel” vehicles beginning in January of next year. Nearly 11 million VW and Audi vehicles have been affected worldwide.

The “clean diesel” vehicles were equipped with software designed to cheat on U.S. emissions tests. The revelation that cars were exceeding the permissible emissions limit by up to thirty-five times has angered those who purchased the vehicles, as well as auto dealers.

Volkswagen has put aside $7.3 billion to cover the cost of next year’s recalls. The recalls may or may not help the automaker regain the trust of VW and Audi owners. Fixing the cars is likely to result in lower fuel economy and worse performance of the affected vehicles, while their resale values have already dropped nearly 13%, according to Kelley Blue Book.

Our attorneys are currently investigating claims against Volkswagen. Many consumers and dealers of the automobiles feel deceived by the automaker and might be eligible for compensation for lost value of their vehicles. Contact us today if you want to see Volkswagen held accountable for the fraud committed on consumers and the United States.
