Workers’ Compensation for Asbestos Exposure

by Brayton Purcell LLP | Dec 9, 2015 | Asbestos

Many of those diagnosed with mesothelioma were exposed to asbestos while on the job. Since the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) requires employees to keep workers safe from toxic exposures at work, many of these employees are eligible for workers’ compensation after diagnosis. Workers’ compensation can help workers pay for expensive medical bills, lost wages, and more.

Workers in different trades have been at high risk for breathing in the substance at work, due to it use in thousands of products and building materials. Insulators, shipbuilders, pipefitters, plumbers, and more have all been known to breathe asbestos while on the job. Unfortunately, their employers failed to train or inform of them about working around asbestos.

Although years or decades later, these unsafe working conditions led to serious diseases, like asbestosis, mesothelioma, and lung cancer. Many workers were debilitated by these respiratory conditions, and lost the ability to support themselves and their families, as a result. Workers compensation helps these individuals receive the compensation and justice they deserve.

An experienced asbestos attorney will know how to file workers’ compensation claims on behalf of affected workers. If you have been diagnosed with a disease like mesothelioma and were exposed to asbestos at work, you might be eligible to file a claim. Do not hesitate to contact our offices today.
