Banning Asbestos Mining, Manufacturing, and Use

by Brayton Purcell LLP | Apr 1, 2016 | Asbestos

Today, April 1, kicks off Global Asbestos Awareness Week, launched by the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO). You might remember us joining in the cause in previous years. In 2016, asbestos is still not banned in multiple countries across the globe. More attention needs to be placed on this deadly carcinogen or we risk losing countless loved ones to the fatal diseases associated with asbestos.

Each day for seven days, educational resources, blog posts, videos, and victims’ stories will be shared by the international community to spread asbestos awareness. Check back to our blog for posts on Monday and Wednesday.

Today we will focus on ADAO’s first point: banning the mining, manufacturing, and use of asbestos. Although there are no longer active asbestos mines in the United States, the activity is still taking place in countries like Russia. Asbestos is exported to nations all over the world, where it is manufactured into products used for different reasons.

Banning these activities worldwide will ensure that no individual experiences asbestos exposure and the diseases that come with it. Workers, their family members, and other individuals are at risk for breathing in asbestos fibers while working with or handling products and materials containing the substance.

We firmly believe that banning asbestos will help eliminate the diseases that come with it, including asbestosis and mesothelioma. Have you or a loved one been exposed to asbestos or diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease? Let us know why you want to see the substance banned in a comment below!

Join us in spreading asbestos awareness as Global Asbestos Awareness Week continues! Share this post on one of your social networks!
