Physicians and Surgeons Call for Asbestos Ban in Canada

by Brayton Purcell LLP | Jun 8, 2016 | Asbestos-Related Illness

Over fifty Canadian physicians and surgeons have sent a letter to their Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, addressing the dangers of asbestos exposure and encouraging the passing of legislation to ban the manufacture, use, import, and export of asbestos and asbestos-containing products in their country.

The surgeons and physicians that signed the letter treat and care for patients diagnosed with asbestos-related diseases, including mesothelioma and lung cancer. It can take years or decades for the symptoms of these diseases to appear, making them devastating diagnoses to receive.

It is often the case that a patient was exposed to asbestos at work in an industrial setting. Blue collar workers, including construction workers, plumbers, auto mechanics, and even teachers, are at risk for exposure that could lead to a fatal asbestos-related disease.

The scary thing is that it is not only Canadians at risk for developing these diseases. Many workers in the United States have been and are still exposed to asbestos on the job. If you have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease, like mesothelioma, do not hesitate to reach out to an experienced asbestos lawyer.
