Roundup: Popular Cancer-Causing Weed Killer Found in Many Beers and Wines

Roundup, a popular weed killer made by Monsanto, has been at the heart of many lawsuits recently. Monsanto is currently facing 380 pending lawsuits because the active ingredient in their popular weed killer, glyphosate, is a known carcinogen.

The Cover-up

By 2007, Roundup weed killer was the most used agricultural herbicide in the United States. Popularity grew when Monsanto introduced genetically modified seeds that were resistant to their weed killers. This allowed farmers to be able to spray growing plants with herbicide without killing their crops. Many people recall having regularly used it on their lawns and gardens too. Now, many Roundup users are being diagnosed with cancer “including all subtypes of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, b-cell lymphoma, leukemia” and others (Consumer Safety, 2018).

Monsanto under Fire

At the heart of many of these lawsuits, victims state that Monsanto knew that glyphosate was dangerous and did not properly warn consumers; Monsanto denies the accusations. Reportedly, when Monsanto was made aware of the harm that Roundup’s active ingredient held, they had two papers “ghostwritten and attributed to academics” in order to make it seem that glyphosate was not carcinogenic.

Found in our Favorite Beers and Wines

In 2016, Germany tested many of their beers and all came back positive for glyphosate. Additionally, Moms Across America tested 12 California wines that turned out to be positive as well (Honeycutt, 2018). Wine brands tested that include glyphosate include: Gallo, Beringer, Mondavi, Barefoot and Sutter Home; beer brands include: Budweiser, Busch, Coors, Michelob, Miller Lite, Sam Adams, Samuel Smith, Peak Organic and Sierra Nevada.

Have You Been Affected?

If you or a loved one has developed Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) or Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), and you believe Roundup, or some other glyphosate-containing product, is to blame, contact us here.
