Brayton Purcell was proud to sponsor the 22nd Annual Roger Hamilton Memorial Invitational that supports mesothelioma research. It was held on June 17, 2024, at the Green Valley Country Club in Fairfield, CA.

History of the event

The Mesothelioma Research Foundation of America was established in 2001 in Southern California by Jerry and Elizabeth Paul, backed by United Association Representative Jim Kellogg and Dr. Parkash Gill from the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Their joint endeavor enabled California Insulators to participate in the organization.

Roger Hamilton, then California Building Trades Council Vice President, Kellogg, and the California Building Trades Council President Bob Balgenorth organized the inaugural golf tournament, with all funds raised being donated to the newly created foundation. Regrettably, Hamilton was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away in December 2002.roger hamilton golf invitational

The event was rebranded as the Roger Hamilton Memorial to acknowledge Hamilton's efforts in raising mesothelioma awareness in California. His wife carried on his mission and was deeply engaged with the tournament for numerous years. In 2016, the Western States Conference was given the chance to run and manage the fundraiser, and they have successfully organized the event ever since.

From the time it was established, the charity event has generated over $1.5 million, with all earnings directly benefiting The Mesothelioma Research Foundation of America.

All the money collected will be used to support the research of Dr. Parkash Gill at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

It was just trial after trial after trial, which was an amazing experience.” The law firm Nevin had joined right out of law school, Brayton Purcell LLP in California, was awash in cases of workers victimized by toxic exposures in […]
