The Daily Journal announced their Top Verdicts for 2014, and a Brayton Purcell LLP win was included in the list! Whalen v. John Crane Inc. was selected in the Top Plaintiffs’ Verdicts category.

In late October 2014, Brayton Purcell LLP attorneys secured a $70,861,113 verdict for plaintiffs Robert and Linda Whalen. Robert Whalen was diagnosed with mesothelioma in December of 2013. This diagnosis was result of twenty-six years in the U.S. Navy aboard nuclear submarines as a Machinists Mate and a Nuclear Inspector, where he handled John Crane Inc.’s asbestos packing and gasket materials.

Associates Jennifer L. Alesio, Esq. and Heather-Ann Young, Esq., and senior trial partner Gilbert L. Purcell, of Brayton Purcell LLP, were trial counsel for the Whalens.

The trial, which began in September 2014, was presided over by the Honorable ia Kolakowski, Alameda Superior Court. John Crane Inc. was represented at trial by Daniel Griffin, Esq. of O’Connell, Tivin, Miller & Burns, LLC and Robert Nelder, Esq. of Hassard Bonnington LLP.
