February 9, 2012 — On October 15, 2011, James P. Nevin became the youngest ever associate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) San Francisco Chapter. The American Board of Trial Advocates is the national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. ABOTA works to uphold the jury system by educating the American public about the history and value of the right to trial by jury. At 36 years old, Mr. Nevin was invited to join ABOTA because of his reputation for skilled and professional advocacy in trial, as well as his record of first-chairing more than 150 jury trials, including 12 to verdict.
Mr. Nevin joins Senior Partner Gilbert Purcell, who in 2008 at the age of 51, was the youngest ever member of ABOTA elevated to the level of Diplomat, an honor given only to trial attorneys who have achieved a record of 100 jury trials to verdict. Fewer than 50 plaintiffs’ trial attorneys across the nation have achieved this status.
ABOTA membership is by invitation only. Trial lawyers of high personal character and honorable reputation are nominated and elected to become members of the ABOTA.
