Financial swindles and scams are some of the most common types of elder abuse. Telemarketing, investment and insurance scams cheat elders out of millions of dollars, often leaving them destitute and homeless. This is especially sad to think about when you consider how many homeless elders are U.S. Military veterans.
Neglect
In some cases, a caretaker, doctor, or nurse can neglect an elder in different ways. Neglect typically refers to the refusing or failing to provide the patient with life’s most basic necessities, like food, water, personal hygiene, medicine, and more.
