April 17, 2017Our veterans have been through so much for our country, you would think they would be honored and celebrated by every single U.S. citizen. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Many companies and individuals target elderly veterans for abuse and scams, rather than celebration.
There are several ways in which our elders are abused on a daily basis. Let’s take a look at just a few:
Physical Abuse
Abuse that results in physical pain, bodily injury, or impairment is known as physical abuse. Hitting, pushing, slapping, pinching, and other physical acts are just some of the ways in which a caregiver can physically abuse an elderly patient, but there are other ways, as well.
In some cases of physical abuse, the elderly patient is under or over-medicated, resulting in physical pain or impairment.
Financial Scams
Financial swindles and scams are some of the most common types of elder abuse. Telemarketing, investment and insurance scams cheat elders out of millions of dollars, often leaving them destitute and homeless. This is especially sad to think about when you consider how many homeless elders are U.S. Military veterans.
Neglect
In some cases, a caretaker, doctor, or nurse can neglect an elder in different ways. Neglect typically refers to the refusing or failing to provide the patient with life’s most basic necessities, like food, water, personal hygiene, medicine, and more.
