Every parent in America is dedicated to ensuring their children are as safe as possible. This makes it specially difficult when we discover the products we trust with that safety fail to meet our expectations. Unfortunately as anyone who has bought the wide variety of baby accessories available for parents today will tell you, this potential for danger is all to pervasive.

One of the most recent incidents Involves Graco and Century Branded Strollers. 5 million of these strollers are being recalled after the company received 10 reports of full or partial finger tip amputations caused by a folding hinge on the side of the stroller. This ghastly mishap occurs when the hinges that allow the stroller to fold fail to lock in place when unfolded.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission states: “Caregivers are advised to immediately remove the child from a stroller that begins to fold to keep their fingers from the side hinge area,”. The company states the recall is voluntary and that it will issue a free repair kit beginning in December.

The recalled models are Aspen, Breeze, Capri, Cirrus, Glider, Kite, LiteRider, Sierra, Solara, Sterling and TravelMate model strollers and travel systems. These models manufacture date is from August 1, 2000, to September 25, 2014.

Companies claim to do all they can to ensure the safety of their products. However, this is another reminder to always fill out and mail in recall information cards, which so often are discarded when we purchase the next newest piece of baby gear.
